Madang Province, situated on Papua New Guinea's north coast, offers an abundance of welcoming villages, including island, coastal and mountain communities. Witness the unique dance, arts & crafts and rich history of Madang whilst enjoying a mix of village life and resort comforts during your unforgettable journey.

Itinerary

DAY 1    Depart for Madang, via Port Moresby. After arrival in Madang you will settle in to tranquil Madang Lodge, overlooking Astrolabe Bay. A relaxed evening meal is on offer and a chance to enjoy your first balmy Madang night.

DAY 2    A morning visit to the Madang town market to experience the traditional centre of village trade, followed by a visit to the Madang Cultural Centre Haus Tambaran to view ancient artifacts and history. You will have an opportunity to buy some of the best fresh fruit on the planet, as well as local artifacts and crafts from PNG. Next you will visit Coastwatcher’s Memorial Lighthouse, before returning  to Madang Lodge for rest & relaxation.

DAY 3    You will travel to the mountain village of Hobe for wartime history, followed by Bilbil Village o see their renowned handmade pottery process. A quick visit to beautiful Balek Sanctuary will round out the day’s adventure, before relaxing at Madang Lodge.

DAY 4   A morning departure for a day of island touring, including picturesque Tab (Pig) Island and Krangket Island, including the unique opportunity to have a beautiful tropical island to yourselves. Snorkeling, swimming and canoeing available.

DAY 5    Following breakfast , you will visit war sites on your way to Kuseng Village on the north coast of Madang Province. Immerse yourself in the daily village life experience. Traditional crafts, dance and song will all be on display. Enjoy the village and island surrounds. A visit to the village kindergarten is always a favourite. Make sure you have a snorkel, as there is a magnificent reef system just off the village shore.

DAY 6    Explore Megiar Mission and it’s surrounds. Make sure you attempt a dive or two through the “Hole in the Wall’. Spend the afternoon with free time to relax or get involved with village life, crafts and dance. Try some traditional fishing or outrigger canoeing. 

DAY 7    Say your goodbyes to the local villagers that you have come to know and make your way back to beautiful Jais Aben Resort for an afternoon of paddling, swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. Take the opportunity for a restful afternoon on the water’s edge with restaurant and bar ideally situated. Jais Aben lies at the entrance to peaceful Nagada Harbour.  

DAY 8    Madang Festival experience. Witness the entire province's culture and traditional dress, as each region displays it's dance and song in one place. A true highlight. 

DAY 9    A morning of exploring the islands and inlets of the Riwo coastline, followed by further relaxation at Jais Aben.  

DAY 10  After breakfast, take the chance for a final tour of Madang town, with lunch at Madang Resort. A final opportunity to barter for local artifacts and say goodbyes to the locals you have come to know.

DAY 11   Depart Madang for home.
