From February until the end of April Bamurru Plains is a dedicated fishing lodge. The Top End is renowned for its Barramundi fishing and an airboat fishing adventure from Bamurru is a unique and exhilarating way to experience this.

Accommodation

Each of the nine raised safari bungalows overlook the floodplains. Your bungalow doubles as your own personal viewing platform, with three of the walls consisting of floor to ceiling mesh screening. Watch water buffaloes grazing and listen to the call of the Magpie Geese, all from the comfort of your very comfortable bed, (complete with organic cotton bedding and pillow menu!). Spacious ensuite bathrooms include high pressure showers.

There is also one Kingfisher Suite which comfortably accommodates families (up to 5) or honeymooners looking for a little more privacy, with the option of in room dining.

There is no television, internet access or mobile phone coverage, providing a true escape from the everyday and an opportunity to truly immerse yourself in this spectacular landscape.

Three of the bungalows have air-conditioning (provided at a supplement to cover the running costs), while the newer rooms have overhead fans and mesh screen walls to take advantage of the coastal breezes for cooling.

Food & Wine

Experience unique and innovative Australian bush-inspired cuisine, incorporating both authentic and contemporary influences and consisting of native and locally sourced produce. All meals are included with a typical day consisting of a light (but delicious) breakfast, lunch on the wildlife observation deck, afternoon canapés in the wilderness and a gourmet hosted dinner.

There is a self-service bar stocked with a variety of refreshments, with guests able to help themselves at any time.

When to Go

For the months of February, March and April, at the end of the Monsoon season, Bamurru Plains operates as a dedicated fishing lodge. Regular packages are then offered from the beginning of May until the end of October.

May to July is a very comfortable time of year to visit with cooler temperatures and lower humidity. This is a good time of year to spot a variety of raptors, kites, falcons and sea eagles.

From August to September, the days and nights are warmer, the floodplain grasses change to a golden brown and the prolific birdlife and wildlife is concentrated around the remaining waters and secluded billabongs providing wonderful photographic opportunities. Crocodiles can be seen on the banks protecting their nests as the mating season comes to an end.

October is the beginning of the Pre-Monsoon season, with humidity rising, dramatic cloudy skies and the possibility of rain. The buzz of cicadas and calling of frogs in the woodlands provide the soundtrack to the spectacle of abundant birdlife, particularly Magpie Geese around the remaining waterholes.

September and October provide good value, with discounted rates for stays of 3 nights or more.
